Living in a 1992-built condo is more glamorous than it sounds — trust us. While some condo seekers want nothing but the newest and shiniest homes in town, others understand the value of aged wines, cheeses, and even condominiums.
The glass and red brick tower at 88 Corporate Drive was constructed by Tridel and designed by Peter F. Turner, and contains a grand total of 557 Toronto condos. With the building reaching to 29 storeys, this means each floor contains around 20 homes.
While the façade of the Residences at The Consilium I isn’t all too flashy, it’s the amenities that really stand out. To start, not only is the building equipped with a concierge, but a 24-hour gatehouse provides an additional layer of security for residents. Then there are the standard amenities such as a gym, and underground parking. Finally, 88 Corporate Dr is also equipped with indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a sauna, a four-lane bowling alley, a squash court, four tennis courts, two hot tubs, two squash courts, four guest suites, billiards and table tennis, a library, a cards room, and a mahjong room.
The Suites
Even with 20 units per floor, many of the homes at 88 Corporate Dr are still quite large, with some suites reaching to 1,400 square feet. Those who prefer something on the smaller side will also be glad to hear that units start at approximately 500 square feet.
Homes at The Residences at The Consilium I contain one bedroom, one bedroom plus a den, two bedrooms, two bedrooms plus a den, or three bedrooms, and in some units the dens in question are more like solariums. Plus, all of the two bedroom suites in the building come equipped with two bathrooms. Best, if you can't find a unit here then there's probably something on the market next door at The Residences At The Consilium II.
The Neighbourhood
The Residences at The Consilium I is perfectly situated for residents who experience FOMO — fear of missing out. While some Scarborough condos are set in residential neighbourhoods, 88 Corporate Dr is located in the Woburn neighbourhood, and just down the street from the Scarborough Town Centre.
In addition to the restaurants and shops found within this large mall, residents can find an array of eclectic restaurants along Ellesmere Road. There’s also a Toronto Public Library branch, a Service Canada Centre, and a YMCA right across the street from the Scarborough Town Centre. And when it comes time to stock up on groceries, residents living at 88 Corporate Dr don’t have to travel far in order to reach a FreshCo, as well as a couple of independent Indian supermarkets.
Transportation
Torontonians living any farther east might have a hard time travelling around the city without a car, but not residents of 88 Corporate Dr. The building is situated less than a kilometre away from McCowan Station, the final stop on the Scarborough subway line. The 9 Bellamy bus also comes in handy: this route carries passengers south down to St. Clair Avenue East, eventually offering the chance to transfer onto the Bloor-Danforth subway line at Warden Station.
As for drivers living at 88 Corporate Dr, nothing quite beats having an on ramp for the 401 around the corner, at McCowan Road. Residents can zip east or west in order to reach destinations in Scarborough, North York, Mississauga and beyond.
